The model was Marie Hayes who appears in the scenes of married life, notably Ennui with Hubby a friend from Sickert’s childhood whom he employed for a period from 1911

The only known drawing in the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery identifies the location as Harrington Square, Camden Town. Sickert lived there in 1911 after his return to London from a summer spent in Neuville following his marriage to Christine Angus
